Get To Know Dr. Shivani Patel

Dr. Shivani was born in Bedford, England and moved to Sugar Land, TX at the age of 9. Later, she would go on to attend both her undergraduate and dental school programs in Houston. She was drawn to orthodontics because of how life changing her own orthodontic journey was. Dr. Shivani loves that orthodontics has the ability to truly change someone’s life for the better. Getting to build relationships with her patients – whether it’s listening to a tough situation they’re dealing with at school or hearing all about their activities and achievements – and seeing their confidence grow over time is what she finds most rewarding about her work. 

With an extensive educational background, you can rest assured that your smile is in good hands with Dr. Shivani. She attended Houston Baptist University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. She then went on to study at the University of Texas, School of Dentistry where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. To round out her education, she completed her Master of Science in Dentistry degree and received a Certificate in Orthodontics from the University of Colorado, School of Dental Medicine. 

When she's not in the office, Dr. Shivani enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her family. She says that living in beautiful Colorado during her orthodontics residency is what sparked her love of nature and travel. Dr. Shivani, her husband, and son love traveling and exploring the lifestyle, food, culture, and nature of new places. Ocean kayaking, snorkeling, parasailing, and hiking have been some of their favorite adventures so far. They also love taking their pup, Riley, to parks around Houston, attending sporting events, and discovering new places to eat!

Get To Know Dr. Jaanki Patel

Like her sister, Dr. Jaanki was born in Bedford, England, a small town 60 miles north of London. She has fond childhood memories of growing up in the UK, from the culture and the food to the beauty of the English countryside. At the beginning of 10th grade, she moved to Sugar Land, Texas with her parents and two younger sisters. She is proud of her Indian heritage and says that this cross-continent experience is what helped make her the person she is today. 

Dr. Jaanki’s comprehensive education and training began with receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Houston. She then went on to study at the University of Texas, School of Dentistry where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. At the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Jaanki completed her certificate in orthodontics and her Master of Science in Dentistry degree. 

It is important to Dr. Jaanki that her patients and parents feel taken care of and at ease about their orthodontic experience every step of the way. She also strives to ensure that they receive the same level of care that she would expect for her own family and herself.

Dr. Jaanki and her husband have two kids. Dr. Jaanki says that life with two energetic children is always new and exciting. They enjoy walks to the park, reading, playing games, and cooking new meals together. She absolutely loves being a wife and mom and spending time with her family. When she’s not transforming smiles, Dr. Jaanki can be found working out, enjoying the pool with her family, connecting with friends, trying new recipes, or reading.

Meet our Front End Coordinator, Kristen! She is the warm and friendly voice you hear on the phone and is the first smiling face to greet you at the door!

Kristen grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and moved to the Katy/Houston area in 2014 with her husband and young children. She values her roles as wife and mother of five kiddos and one fur baby. Currently her children are high school and middle school students and they keep her busy with sports, band, choir and a multitude of other activities. As a family, they love going to the movies, having game nights, and cooking together. They also enjoy road trips and exploring all there is to see in Texas. Family time is the best time! In her occasional spare time, Kristen loves to be crafty.

Working in Orthodontics quickly became a passion for Kristen more than 25 years ago and she considers herself fortunate to have worked with an amazing and dynamic team early on who introduced her to the joys and benefits of this dental specialty. She feels it a privilege to be a part of a field that focuses on creating healthy and beautiful smiles, as well as witnessing the profound impact that orthodontic treatment can have in others’ lives.

Kristen feels the best thing about being a part of the Patel Family Orthodontics team is working with Drs. Jaanki and Shivani. “They are compassionate and excellent orthodontists whose main focus is to provide the highest level of care to their patients. It is a pleasure helping patients experience the best care possible on their smile journeys.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

We know that beginning your orthodontic journey can feel like a big step, but we are here to keep you informed and excited. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a friendly member of our team who will show you around our office before beginning your consultation. Your first visit will be all about getting to know your (or your child’s) needs, goals, and lifestyle. We will also take some digital scans and x-rays to get a better understanding of your or your child’s oral health. During your one-on-one time with Dr. Shivani or Dr. Jaanki, you’ll be given the opportunity to voice any concerns or questions you may have before collaborating on a treatment plan, taking you one step closer to achieving that dream smile!
